Author Bio

Dottie Kelly is a trauma therapist, children’s author, and lifelong storyteller whose work centers on helping children and families navigate the emotional impact of trauma.  Dottie writes children’s books that reflect her therapeutic values – compassion, resilience, and self-empowerment – often infused with warmth and humor.

Story telling is the heartbeat of Dottie’s therapeutic approach.  Her goal as a therapist and story writer is to help children avoid internalizing negative beliefs and instead discover their inner strength.  Dottie’s children’s books place children in relatable situations, remind them they are not alone, and empower young readers to recognize big emotions and regulate their nervous system.

Dottie began her career as a Registered Nurse, working in surgical oncology before earning her master’s in counseling psychology.  Beyond the page, Dottie has taught body and emotional safety and awareness programs to elementary schools, worked with parents to create a custody agreement for the court, has spoken at seminars on trauma, recovery, grief, and equine therapy.  With over 20 years of experience, Dottie draws from her deep well of professional expertise and personal insight to craft stories that resonate with young readers and support their emotional growth.

When she is not writing or working with clients, Dottie enjoys time in nature, connecting with family and pets, and exploring the healing arts.  Dottie is also working on a memoir that traces her own journey of healing and transformation.
